CheckMyIHT is operated by Dean Gillam. We are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. If you have any questions, you can reach us at contact@checkmyiht.com.
When you use the calculator, every figure you enter — property values, savings, pensions, investments, business interests, gifts — is calculated on your device. The calculation engine, profiling, and strategy matching all run locally in your browser. If you leave the site without requesting your report, nothing you entered is sent to us or stored anywhere.
If you choose to receive your report by email, we ask for your first name and email address. You also choose whether to give us marketing consent — this is entirely optional and does not affect your report.
When you submit your email, your financial figures are sent to our server to generate the PDF report. We store the following in a secure database against your unique reference code:
Personal details: your first name, email address, reference code, privacy consent confirmation, marketing consent choice, and the date and time of your request.
Estate and profile data: your estate figures (property, cash, investments, pensions, business assets, other assets, debts, and net estate value), your estimated inheritance tax liability, your planning profile (including your answers to the profiling questions about age, health, control preference, gifting attitude, charity interest, and motivation), and the strategy IDs matched to your estate.
Your report: a copy of your personalised PDF report.
This data is stored so that if you later choose to connect with a specialist, we can provide them with the context they need to prepare for your conversation. If you do not connect with a specialist, all of this data is automatically deleted after 90 days.
You can download your report directly from the calculator results page without providing any personal details. In this case, your figures never leave your device and we store nothing.
We collect your name and email address to deliver your report. We store your estate data and report so that if you choose to connect with a specialist, we can forward the relevant context without asking you to repeat yourself. Our legal basis for this processing is legitimate interest — providing you with the service you have requested.
If you give us marketing consent, we may send you follow-up guidance related to your report. Our legal basis for marketing communications is your explicit consent, which you can withdraw at any time by clicking unsubscribe in any email or by contacting us.
If you use the "Connect with a Specialist" form, you provide your name, email address, and optionally your phone number, postcode, reference code, and a message. Before submitting, you are asked to give separate consent for your details and personalised report to be shared with a qualified IHT specialist.
When you submit the form, we forward the following to the specialist assigned to your enquiry: your contact details, your estate breakdown, your planning profile, your matched strategies, and a copy of your PDF report. This gives the specialist the context they need to prepare for a meaningful first conversation with you.
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any other parties. Your information is only shared with the individual specialist assigned to your enquiry, and only after you have given explicit consent.
If you decide not to proceed after connecting, your information will be deleted — simply let us or the specialist know. Specialists who work with CheckMyIHT are contractually required to delete your data on request.
If you have not completed the calculator and contact us directly, we may ask for approximate estate value and liquid asset bands to help match you with an appropriately experienced specialist. These figures are not stored beyond the purpose of that matching.
Lead data — including your personal details, estate data, and stored report — is automatically deleted after 90 days unless you have connected with a specialist. This is handled by an automated process that runs daily. After deletion, we hold no record of your name, email, financial figures, or report from that interaction.
If you submit a specialist referral request, that data is retained for as long as necessary to manage your referral and is deleted promptly on request.
We use a small number of trusted services to operate CheckMyIHT. Your personal data may be processed by the following:
Postmark (by ActiveCampaign) delivers your report email on our behalf, including the PDF attachment which contains your financial figures. Their privacy policy is available at postmarkapp.com.
Neon provides our secure database, hosted in the United Kingdom. Your lead data, estate data, and report are stored here and automatically deleted after 90 days.
Vercel hosts the CheckMyIHT website and runs the server process that generates your PDF report. Report content passes through Vercel's servers during PDF generation.
Google Analytics collects anonymous usage data such as pages visited and time on site. No personally identifiable financial data is included in analytics tracking. You can opt out by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
The website also loads Google Fonts and CDN-hosted libraries, which are subject to those providers' own privacy policies.
CheckMyIHT uses a cookie consent banner. If you accept cookies, Google Analytics will track anonymous usage data to help us improve the site. If you decline, no analytics cookies are set. We do not use cookies for advertising. A single preference cookie records your consent choice for up to one year.
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, correct anything that is inaccurate, request deletion of your data, object to processing based on legitimate interest, and withdraw marketing consent at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at contact@checkmyiht.com. We aim to respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
If we make significant changes to how we handle your data, we will update this page and change the date at the top. We recommend checking back occasionally.
For any privacy-related questions, please email contact@checkmyiht.com.
